Software Testing

Handling Software Requirements

I had the pleasure of meeting Payson Hall (Twitter: @paysonhall) in Twitter recently. We chatted up, and found common things of interest to talk about. Payson is a very experienced Project Manager, who is currently handling Public Sector projects in California. One of the things that we share in common is the importance we give for Software Requirements and Change Control. We decided that we can have an YouTube podcast on that, and here it is:

After I spoke to him, I realized I needed to work even more closely with Product Managers, Project Managers, Business Analysts, and Product Owners. They are the key people who work closely with customers and target audience and can get their pulse while coming up with requirements. As we already know, earlier the better to prevent those requirements misunderstandings, so from a Software Testing perspective, it’s important to engage more and more closely with them.

Another aspect is production issues and new requirements from previous release feeding into the requirements for the current release. Here too, talking to the engineers who are in production will help in exactly understanding the needs so that we can make sure that the requirements are set right in the current release.
