BDD Podcast With Gaspar Nagy

BDD Podcast With Gaspar Nagy

It had been always in my mind to talk about BDD in my YouTube channel, because Software Requirements are so important, and when we come up with them, we need to make sure that we are covering all the customer scenarios effectively. BDD is a way of specifying those scenarios.

The first step in BDD is to brainstorm and have conversations about how the customer will use the product. This phase is called the ‘Discovery’ phase. The output of this phase will be the concrete example scenarios of how the customer will use the product. There’s a format called ‘Gherkin’ with which we write these scenarios. A set of scenarios that pertains to one functional area is organized under a ‘Feature’ file.

While the Gherkin syntax is pretty simple, coming up with effective scenarios is not easy at all! This needs solid experience and very good understanding of the way requirements are mapped to the workings of the software.

I have been planning to talk about the examples discovery phase, and in October 2021, Gaspar Nagy had kindly agreed my invitation to talk in my YouTube channel. What transcribed is a podcast, which can be found at:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-4_czzq_Qc

The podcast runs for 52 minutes, and the content has been divided into chapters, which can be easily navigated in YouTube. There are several interesting topics that are covered in this podcast, so I would strongly recommend that
you watch this video if you are interested in getting your BDD related questions answered.

If you come across any questions while watching the video, please ask them as a comment in the video link. Gaspar and me will try to answer them.

Happy Testing!
