I’m going to be in a full-day conference tomorrow where leaders in the business services meet. I’m excited to be part of it, and there’s something that’s on my mind to discuss, deliberate, and have the other participants’ views on business value of Software Testing.
I’m mostly from a product background. Testing and Quality is integral part of the software development process, although testing and quality is managed as a separate team for logistical purposes like resource and performance management, but mind you, testing team members sit in the same building, a few cubes away and interact closely with the developers.
I have also been part of business units, where software testing and quality had been managed as a service, with the clients and developers sitting a world away, sometimes a twelve hours difference in time zone. These kind of ‘projects’ weren’t much in my career.
I have always been a product/business/industry fan, and I love working closely with the rest of the team. A third-party testing team which is not integrated to the business is a bit of a challenge to manage, I guess.
Tomorrow is going to be one such day, where people from business services are going to be present. My focus will be on whether they consider software testing and quality as a business service, and how, in today’s world. It would be something interesting to watch.
As I consult as a Chief Quality Officer / Software Testing Technologist, my attention will be on how the teams are organized and how the development life cycle takes place. Wish me luck to get as much insights as possible tomorrow!
If your organisation is looking for a CQO or if you are curious about business value of Software Testing, feel free to setup a chat.
Cheers, and look forward to hear from you!
