Software has become ubiquitous and part of our daily lives in so many ways. We expect that software works in certain ways that we anticipate. We also expect that software does not break or fail that makes our daily lives miserable – from banking to transportation, medicines to Edtech. People use mobile apps a lot, so it’s important to do mobile apps testing.

When I think about #SoftwareTesting, there are a few areas that I find and make a significant impact in the current scenario. And the topmost in my list as I enter 2023 is mobile apps. Many of our interactions with the world are through mobile apps whether we like it or not.
There are several aspects to mobile apps testing. One key aspect that I see across sectors and industries is the app. security. In the past couple of years, I have heard innumerable complaints from customers, especially from Netbanking customers about their money lost or stolen, account breached, etc.
Not just banking, but every industry has their own privacy, safety, and security considerations, making sure that their customers’ information and data is safe and secure.
Thus it’s important for Software Testing and Quality practitioners to do their best and go that extra mile to raise the confidence of their products’ customers by preventing defects from getting into production.
It looks to me that mobile app. security would emerge as a top priority in the next few years.
As always, we need to be vigilant that tools and automation only aid in testing these apps and do not replace the human aspects involved in testing. Because at the end of the day, machines can only do what we tell them. They can’t think and analyze and come up with new ways of raising the usage confidence of a software.
