There have been a couple of pings in LinkedIn asking for advice for how to proceed in the Testing Career, and what job opportunities are out there. An education agency wanted to have me as a mentor in their platform, which I am considering. It’s a pleasure to guide, mentor, and coach other professionals. In this blog, let’s look at the Tester Qualities.
Some of the questions that an young person just out of college and venturing into the industry has, are, “Is Testing the right career for me? How do I know if I will shine well in Testing? What are the attributes of a great Tester?” Great questions! And I’m glad that they ask and explore, instead of jumping just right in just to get a job – and later regret.
To me, based on my experience, there are three things that one should possess to be a great Tester.
- Attention to detail
- Having the big picture in mind
- Curiosity to learn, and explore how things work.
That’s it! In yesterday’s blog, I talked about attention, and how important it is for Testing and Quality. In addition to that, if you have the ability to figure out how things interconnect and have the big picture (solution/product) in mind, you will be able to point out to the developer how a change could affect a specific functionality, and which portions of software needs to be tested well. Also, curiosity about how things work is important.
Feel free to reach out to me if you need guidance in your testing career or tester qualities. I would be glad to help!
