When I think about solution complexity and its implications in Software Testing and Quality, I cannot avoid thinking about the Distribution Center Management in the Logistics and Supply Chain industry.
When the traditional inventory management transformed into Warehouse Management, and Warehouse Management grew into Distribution Center Management based on the Just-In-Time needs of the manufacturing supply chain as well as the e-commerce retail order fulfilment, the complexity of the interactions between the various pieces of software grew, and thus the need to ensure that the product delivered to the customers is of high quality.
Today’s modern Distribution Center Management Software incorporates cutting-edge technologies like Machine Learning, Robotics, IoT, APIs to interact between the various components, etc. Each of these technologies have their own Software Testing challenges and Quality asks. It’s a complex craft, and needs dedicated attention and care.
